I have never officially written a review for a concert, so if it is really bad... I apologize in advance.
THE VENUE: The Hollywood Bowl, located in Hollywood CA, is the ideal setup for a concert. This outside arena host mini box seats that are ideal if you are watching a concert with someone or a group. I was a little upset with Jason for not telling me more about this place because come to find out, inside each "box" there is a fold out table, ideal for having a picnic style dinner and had I know, I would have packed the picnic basket.
Although the area itself did not look that big, I was surprised to hear that there were over 17,000 people in attendance the night of the concert. It is very open space with plenty of restrooms that were clean and the lines were minimal, and as a woman that is always a plus!
THE OPENING ACT: G-Love & Special Sauce are known for their are known for their unique, "sloppy", and "laid back" blues sound. I had heard a few of their songs before but honestly they are not a group I listen to on a daily basis...however, since the show I have downloaded a few of their songs. They were a good fit for Mraz as an opening act. They were lively and energetic and have the kind of vibe needed for this kind of a show.
MRAZ HIMSELF: I am sure that this portion of my review is going to sound very bias, but I love Jason Mraz and this show in particular. As a native San Diegan, I remember in my early college days going to see him play in a tiny cafe. I knew then that he was going to become something great in the music world, and I was right. Although he is much bigger now, and has a bigger following, he was still the same Jason Mraz. Taking the stage a little after 9 p.m., he was entertaining, talkative and knew how to get the crowd up and on our feet. He played a lot of his older stuff and a few I had never heard of, but all in all, I give his set list an A+.
THE ENCORE: We all know that a good encore set it is a must and Mraz did not disappoint. Walking from the stage into the crowd and only feet from our seats, Jason sang with a girl , who is the manager of this cafe in San Fran that he really likes and together they sang my favorite "Lucky." I was surprised and very happy... He played another song with G-Love and then one by himself and he finished the night with BUTTERFLY! The sexist song out today and one I personally hope my Jason dedicates to me haha.
OVERALL: This was an amazing night at the perfect venue, and for me, with the perfect date. I recommend that if Jason Mraz is playing near you... GET TICKETS!!! He is well worth it!
